He grew up in Amsterdam, in a family where many stories were told, story-telling is in his blood. In later life, after his sailing time, he worked for 31 years in a fruit importing business in Rotterdam as an executive secretary. In his spare time, he studied Spanish. For years he has been writing stories and poems. He also wrote a book about his childhood in Amsterdam.
