A must watch , so real of the late 50,s , sadness mixed with humor GREAT viewing
I loved this series. It doesn't sugarcoat the life of a midwife but there are plenty of light moments and comedy in the right dose.
Such a wonderful series that has made me snort with laughter and cry with the characters. An amazing show all around and beautifully done.
A true story of London’s East End in the 1950s.
A moving, intimate, funny and, above all, true-to-life look at the colourful stories of midwifery and families in East London in the Fifties, based on the best-selling memoirs of the late Jennifer Worth. Newly-qualified midwife Jenny Lee is the latest arrival at Nonnatus House, a convent in one of the poorest areas of London. Jenny is welcomed by the nuns and befriended by the other midwives – good-time girl Trixie, sensible Cynthia and fellow newcomer, the posh, fish-out-of-water, Chummy.
We are introduced to the local community through the eyes of the young nurse as she cycles out to tend to her patients. Although the life that greets Jenny is a world away from what she’s used to, she immerses herself in the births, deaths, intrigues and romances of a community she rapidly learns to love. This critically-acclaimed six-part series offers a fascinating insight into a community on the brink of huge social change.
