Purchased on Mighty Ape

This isn't a review of the actual book, but on this physical edition of it. Was very disappointed to see a Penguin Modern Classic and how the quality has dropped dramatically over the past years. I have some of the old Penguin Modern Classics with the silver trim/back, and they are great, but these new ones are quite poor. The font size is crazy small, and the actual type is not solid and has broken bits in the letters. Also, the paper quality is poor and basically newsprint paper, and for these reasons, and that it will be quite difficult to read, I won't be purchasing any of the Penguin Modern Classics books anymore.

Description

A stunning new series look for one of the greatest writers of the 20th century in Penguin Modern Classics In the din and stink that is Cannery Row a colourful blend of misfits - gamblers, whores, drunks, bums and artists - survive side by side in a jumble of adventure and mischief. Lee Chong, the astute owner of the well-stocked grocery store, is also the proprietor of the Palace Flophouse that Mack and his troupe of good-natured 'boys' call home. Dora runs the brothel with clockwork efficiency and a generous heart, and Doc is the fount of all wisdom. Packed with invention and joie de vivre CANNERY ROW is Steinbeck's high-spirited tribute to his native California.
