The inspiring story of seven generations of Gordons at Clifton, Cape Kidnappers. The Gordon family has been at Clifton since 1861. Though farming in this location is often challenging, it is a spectacularly beautiful environment, situated on the east coast of the North Island, just 20 minutes' drive south of Napier. The story of Clifton is a story of a family's deep love and connection to that land and their determination to hand it on intact and thriving to succeeding generations. Six generations of Gordons have enjoyed living there, and the seventh has just been born. Each generation has had a deep attachment to this land both through times of prosperity and success, and through struggles, droughts, floods, and economic downturns. Each has successfully maintained and improved the property to hand onto the next generation.

Jenny Carlyon (Author) Jenny Carlyon has a PhD in History from the University of Auckland and the French qualification Licence d'histoire (equivalent to a BA.) She has worked as a teacher and as a researcher/writer for major corporates, run a small business, and is now a professional historian. She and Diana Morrow are the authors of Urban Village- The Story of Ponsonby, Freemans Bay and St. Mary's Bay, (2008); A Fine Prospect- A History of Remuera, Meadowbank and St. Johns (2011) and Changing Times, New Zealand Since 1945 (2013). Diana Morrow (Author) Dr Diana Morrow is a professional historian and the co author of two earlier books for Random House New Zealand- Urban Village and A Fine Prospect.
