I have always been a fan of the James Bond movies. I feel that even the worst Bond film is better than a lot of regular action films. After seeing the series made great with the release of Casino Royale in 2006, I decided to go back and read the original Ian Fleming novels starting with Casino Royale. I found this book fantastic. The movie was for the most part faithful to the novel and I appreciated it being made in a contemporary setting. I thought the Cold War setting of the novel was a great time capsule to me, being born in the 1980s. Fleming really knew how to tell a story. Sometimes a book is hard for me to get into during the first few chapters, but he really knows how to set up characters, actions and ratchet up tension. And I knew all this had happed because I saw the movie and it felt new just the same. I have already bought From Russia with Love and am trying to decide what to buy after that. I cant wait to move on to the next book.
Born in London in 1908, Ian Fleming worked variously as a banker and journalist before serving in the British Naval Intelligence during World War II. He published his first novel Casino Royale in 1953 and thus started the astoundingly successful James Bond novels and films. Fleming died in 1964.
