Description

The author argues that some of the conventional wisdom on child labour can be qualified, and even questioned, if we turn from the experiences of leading 19th-century countries, such as Britain and France, to economically and politically weaker countries of Northern Europe. Taking a long-term perspective, from the 17th to the 20th century, Dr Rahikainen aims to convey a richer sense of child labour, by comparing the experiences of the Northern European (Scandinavian) periphery to the paradigmatic cases of Britain and France.
