A sweeping romance set in the southern mountains, "Chandler's Run" is the story of Lucy Chandler, a passionate young wife and mother who follows Adam, her consumptive husband, to colonial New Zealand. They plan to join his wealthy uncle on a well-established sheep run, where the pure mountain air will help Adam recover. Instead, they arrive to a burnt-out shell of a house with no sign of the uncle, his stock or station hands. In the harsh and unforgiving mountains, the family barely survive, becoming reliant on Black Ruby, their surly neighbour. Into their shattered lives rides James McKenzie, an itinerant Scottish master drover, and his black-and-white bitch Friday - and Lucy finds herself torn between two very different men.
