Glass Tech. 2, 216 - 0riginal graduations are seldom correct. The error due to r) inaccuracy of first calibration or (2) change due to afterworking of the glass may be as great as cc. Afterworking may be minimized by annealing and allow ing the pipet to stand for a month or so before calibration. Calibration by weighing, if carefully done, takes at least 15 min. An improved rapid method consists in (r) inverting the pipet over one stopper of a 2-necked Woulfe bottle, the other neck of which is connected to a 1130 reservoir at higher level, (2) filling the pipet, (3) running the 110 back into the bottle, which at the same time forces an equal amt. Of displaced to flow into an auxiliary bulb with calibrated neck, this bulb having been previously calibrated against a standard pipet. Details are given. The method is rapid, 30 pipets per hr.
