Description

John Kirkan experienced wildland firefighter and recently hired by the Pine Valley City Fire Department in Northern Californiais dispatched to a late-night house fire his first night on the job. While he and his partner are inside trying to locate the fire, something goes terribly wrong . . . The next day, John wakes up in the hospital surrounded by firefightersbut not from his department. Armed with his knowledge of history, John faces the challenge of convincing his newfound crew of the impending disaster. Author Biography

James E. Merl spent sixteen years as a firefighter and medic in Southern California before suffering a career-ending injury. As a firefighter, he moved through the ranks of engineer, captain, and training officer. James also taught high school students an emergency first aid/fire-service curriculum in the context of a regional occupational program in California. After retiring from the fire department, James moved to northeastern Washington with his wife and family. He has three beautiful daughters, two of whom also live in Washington State. He currently works as an over-the-road truck driver and takes pride in teaching new semi drivers how to drive. James enjoys vacationing in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington. He loves to laugh and maintains an encyclopedic arsenal of jokes. A visual writer, James tends to envision cinematic scenes and effects as he writes.
