“The CATS was unusual in that it was a second floor club. You went up a couple of short flights of stairs from street level, through a grubby wooden door, down the corridor, through the arch into almost total darkness and blistering heat. Its passageways were smoke-filled with an odd sense of forboding and naughtiness. There was nothing glamorous about The Cats. The Sounds hit you like a ton of dynamite and stayed with you. You remembered what you heard at The Cats.
