Continuing Professional Development in the Lifelong Learning Sector is a key text for anyone who is working, or training to work, in the lifelong learning sector. Since the introduction of the new teacher training framework leading to QTLS, all teachers in the lifelong learning sector must register with the Institute for Learning (IFL) which will issue a licence to practice. In order to maintain this licence, teachers must demonstrate and provide evidence of regular CPD. This book emphasises the importance of teachers as professional individuals who are responsible for their own CPD based on reflective practice, rather than having CPD imposed on them to meet the needs of an audit culture. The new CPD regulations offer a real opportunity for professional teachers in the sector to shape and develop their own CPD in response to the needs of their learners; their institution and local and national priorities. The book provides an introduction to and context for CPD in the lifelong learning sector and a guide to understanding and using the CPD process, both as individuals and as members of the IFL. The first chapter sets the context for CPD. The chapters on 'Being a professional' and reflective practice provide a sound basis for understanding and undertaking continuing professional development.
