Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3 GSI 1992, 2.0-litre, John Cleland from Corgi's Vanguards range.
Cleland started the 1992 season superbly; winning at both Silverstone and Thruxton in the Dave Cook prepared Cavalier modelled here. Caught out by cold tyres in round three at Oulton Park he failed to score but then bagged second at Snetterton and won at Brands Hatch. Poorer results followed as team-mate Jeff Allam and the Toyotas of Andy Rouse and Will Hoy took victories. BMW 318iS driver Tim Harvey then took five successive wins meaning Harvey and Cleland started the last round at Silverstone separated by one point. Harvey’s BMW team mate Steve Soper controversially clashed with Cleland during the final two laps of the season, eliminating them both. Harvey was Champion.

Owner and ex BTCC driver Jim Pocklington bought the car in 2001, racing it in
Formula Saloons until 2004. Restoration to full 1992 specification began in
2007. It was verified as a Mk3 Cavalier BTCC ‘Chassis 1’ as it still wore
its rear-diff mounting brackets having originally been a rear-wheel-drive
prototype. Jim used as many original parts as possible, including the 285bhp
Swindon built engine, roll cage and suspension. He has successfully raced the
car in invitation classic events and reunited it with original driver John
Cleland
