Description

Persons with mental retardation and borderline intelligence present the full range of emotional problems and disorders. Too often, the option of providing counselling and psychotherapy services is overlooked as a viable intervention option. This work is based on the premise that these are useful and effective interventions with the mental retardation and borderline populations. The chapters focus on issues relevant to intervention (assessment, characteristics of emotional problems), specific techniques, and adaptations of techniques for use with this population. The contributors to this volume are all scholars and practitioners with experience in working with individuals with mental retardation and borderline intelligence. It should be of interest to clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors and other mental health practitioners.

Dr. Douglas Strohmer , Ph.D, CRC, APA Fellow, is Chair of the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research. He holds fellow status in the American Psychological Association. He holds fellow status in the American Psychological Association.
