We had problems using this for home grown macs. Crack-a-mac company very helpful. Turns out variety of nut grown commercially is different to the most common grown in NZ, and are usually cured before sale. Biggest suggestion was curing macs in the oven to dry them out more for more successful cracking, and to keep uncracked nuts in a sealed container afterwards to prevent them reabsorbing moisture.

Found this a really easy way to open Macadamia Nuts.
The Macadamia nut is arguably the hardest of all tree nuts to crack and there have been several ways of cracking them to get to the delicious kernel inside.
The aborigines used special rocks with indentations to hold the nut while they hit it with another rock. Other people have used hammers with the usual problem of hitting fingers and thumbs or miss-hitting the nut and see it flying off to some obscure spot.
