A reduced size MultiMediaCard (RS-MMC) is a removable flash memory card. Smaller and thinner than a standard MultiMediaCard card by about 50 percent, the RS-MMC is designed primarily for use in new ultra-compact mobile phones, which have memory-hungry features such as built-in digital cameras, music download capability, and games. Despite its smaller size, the Crucial RS-MMC offers the same storage capacities as a standard Crucial MultiMediaCard.

The versatile Crucial RS-MMC can be used in RS-MMC-compatible devices but also comes with an adapter that converts it into a regular-sized MultiMediaCard so that the RS-MMC card can be used with other regular MultiMediaCard-compatible devices, including digital cameras, MP3 players, and PDAs.

RS-MMCs are used more like a hard drive than RAM. They are designed with flash technology, a non-volatile storage solution that does not lose its information when power is removed from the card. The cards contain no moving parts and are extremely rugged, providing much greater data protection than conventional magnetic disk drives.

When buying RS-MMCs or any other flash memory card, be sure it is the type of memory card your device uses-most cameras, mobile phones, and other devices can accept only one type of card (MultiMediaCard™, CompactFlash card, or Secure Digital™ card). Crucial RS-MMCs are about the size of a small postage stamp: 0.71 inches long, 0.94 inches high, and 0.06 inches thick (18 mm by 24 mm by 1.4 mm).
