One of the projects supported by the Delaware Division of the Arts is their biennial retreat open to Delaware poets and prose writers. The application process is competitive. Work samples are juried in an anonymous review, and participants are chosen based on the merit of their writing submissions. CURRENTS is a collection of poems and stories from the writers who attended the four-day 2014 Cape Henlopen Poetry & Prose Writers Retreat. Fiction includes humorous accounts as well as stories of loss, angst, and self-discovery. Many of the poems are deeply moving. These writings will stay with you and will hopefully make Delaware proud.
You've seen many of their names in print. All twenty Delaware poets and authors represented in CURRENTS are published. Some are national prize winners. They all serve the writing community at large. Coming from various backgrounds, they lead writing workshops in schools, bookstores, prisons, assisted living facilities, libraries, and community centers. They mentor young writers and participate across the state in reading series and open mic events. CURRENTS includes poetry by Maggie Rowe, Jim Bourey, Larry W. Kelts, Phillip Bannowsky, Shannon Connor Winward, Phil Linz, Maria Masington, Kit Zak, Jane Miller, Mahasveta (Gitu) Barua, and maria keane. Short stories published in CURRENTS were written by Liz Dolan, Russell Reece, Mary Pauer, Tery Aine Griffin, Jen Epler, Robert Hambling Davis, Joseph L. Crossen, and Ramona DeFelice Long. Jean Davis wrote non-fiction, and maria keane, a retreat participant, provided the cover art.
