Don Walker's ability to tell compelling stories about the mundane and about ordinary people comes through on this album. His solo work continues along a natural progression from his amazing songwriting for Cold Chisel. On this album he plays with the texture and pacing of songs in ways that probably weren't possible as one of five talented band members. Having played this album on high rotation for a couple of weeks I am more literate to the ‘Don Walker nuances’ of Chisel's back catalogue.
Don Walker has few peers that illuminate the darker underbelly of the Australian psyche better than he, whether he’s performing with Cold Chisel, Tex, Don and Charlie or solo. Gamblers, mongrels, angry women and wannabe’s – none are excluded and non are described with greater authenticity.
His songs have created an important soundtrack to many people’s lives in
