Description

Philip Pullman is one of Britain's most challenging and original authors. His award-winning Dark Materials trilogy has sold over 3 million books in the UK alone and will soon be brought to screen by Lord of the Rings film company New Line Cinema. Darkness Visible looks at the strange world of His Dark Materials and its author Philip Pullman, discussing the sources that have influenced Pullman's many books, the themes throughout, and the controversy and criticism that Pullman has attracted. There's also a who's who of His Dark Materials as well as an answer to the exasperating question, 'What exactly is dust?' This is a fantastic guide to have to hand when reading any of Pullman's stories.

Author Biography:

Nicholas Tucker lives in Lewes and was a teacher and educational psychologist before lecturing in Cultural Studies at the University of Sussex. He is the author of five books about children, childhood and reading. He has also written six books for children, broadcasts frequently and reviews widely in the national press.
