Description

It isn't easy being the only transgender male detective in the Portland, Oregon police force in spite of the city's reputation as friendly to gay, lesbian and transsexual people. That's the experience of Detective Caryl (previously Carol) Fox who transferred out of Vice because he could no longer stand the pedophiles, pimps, drug dealers, meth addicts, hookers and sex traffickers. His experience was not so different from his sometimes partner in arms, J.J. a young woman who converted to Islam and wore her head covering even if it was accompanied by a bulletproof vest. She continued to labor in Vice while Caryl Fox was yet to prove his Homicide abilities in a puzzling murder case. In the Hamilton/Nguen double murder case, their integrity and skills as detectives was about to be tested. This is how it began.
