Description

PREPARING FOR YOUR DEPOSITION is a compact book designed especially for clients, and any person who is going to be deposed should read it at least twice, because it tells you how to handle yourself during a deposition without making a fool out of yourself or completely blowing the case. Included are chapters on Civil Discovery, What a Deposition is, Telling the Truth, Keeping the Answers Short, Volunteering Information, Controlling the Pace, Taking Breaks, Objections to Questions, Advance Preparation, Going Off the Record, Common Question, Common Objections, plus an Appendix that contains several excerpts of the law that pertains to depositions. The author has also included several 'horror' stories about clients and depositions, plus 'how to spot a new attorney, ' and other colorful information not usually included in a dry, straight-laced instructional book about some aspect of law. This is the perfect book for any lawyer to have his or her client read before being deposed.

Author Biography

Edwin H. Sinclair, Jr. has been a successful attorney and real estate investor for the past several decades. His other most recent books include: "Publish & Perish: " How Not to Write a Book. First book horror stories and how to avoid them; "Success & How to Get It: " A comprehensive Guide to Personal & Business Behavior for everyone on the success track and "Buying Foreclosures," a very popular book since the sub-prime mortgage crisis. After talking to numerous former clients and associates who have been deposed and taken deposition, Sinclair has designed this book to answer the commonly-asked questions about how a person should properly conduct oneself when being deposed. Lawyers are always fearful of how their clients or witnesses might affect the case they are being deposed about, and much time is usually spent in preparing them to be questioned - but there is never enough time to cover everything as thoroughly as desired, and this book is the perfect fill-in for that extra bit of information, and a good refresher for the basics.
