English summary: The first complete documentation of an oral Mahabharata-epic from the Himalayan region includes grammatical and stylistic analysis of the poetical language, research about the historical background of oral Mahabharata-traditions in India, and their connection to the classical Sanskrit epic. On the basis of such analysis, this work argues that a centuries-long interaction occurred between the written traditions and the oral traditions, which can be attributed to the oral epic traditions but not directly to the Sankrit texts. The "Pandavani" (Voice of the Pandavas) is a mythological epic with several motifs which do not appear in the Sanskrit text. They sing about the struggle between the divine Pandavas and the demonic Kauravas for universal power, which is manifested symbolically as a world tree. The epic was performed by professional bards every year in February during a festival to honor the god Mahasu; for this reason, the book also elicits the complex religious links between regional deities and the pan-Indian epic tradition. The language is Bangani, a variation of Indo-Aryan West Pahari, but the poetic language is sharply distinct from every-day usage.
