This is a story about murder and intrigue. Our hero is a man named Lewton, formerly of the Ankh-Morpork city Watch. Expelled from the Watch for taking a bribe, he has only just started to pull his life together after years lost in a drunken haze. Lewton has set up shop as Ankh-Morpork's first Private Investigator.
