Dawn McMillan is a much-loved writer of children's books and educational readers, who lives north of Thames. She has enjoyed a number of successful collaborations with Ross Kinnaird, an established illustrator who lives in Birkenhead, Auckland. Among their most well-known books is I Need a New Bum!, a NZ Children's Book bestseller, which has sold over 25,000 copies since release in September 2012; and the international bestseller Why Do Dogs Sniff Bottoms?
