There are some great things about this DVD. First of all, four episodes on this DVD instead of three. So not only did I get an extra hour of my favourite program, all four episodes are great.
First up is a two parter involving an old enemy revived for the first time since the shows return in 2005. The Sontarans are a race bred for war, who do strike a resemblance to a baked potato. (According to the episode, I would apparently look like a pink weasel to them.) It's also the first time i the new series that we see UNIT in full force, they were again huge in the old series, especially the Pertwee era.
The Doctor's Daughter is my absolute favourite episode of the year, although I know the ending left many other fans a little bewildered. As far as character development for the Doctor goes, this episode is right up there.
Finally – Agatha Christie! Brilliant! There's a definite “Cluedo” feel to this episode, a classic murder mystery in sci-fi format. Watch for the scene where the Doctor is trying to undo the effects of the poison he was given – Donna is fantastic.
Season 4 – storywise, the best season so far, and this is one of the two best volumes of the series.
