I have to admit that the Sixth Doctor is probably my favorite but the one that I was most frustrated by, basically because his time on television was marred by an incompetent script editor and a now infamous head of programming at the Beeb. Having well redeemed himself at Big Finish Audio I wanted to find him in other media as well. And here's his Doctor, much larger than life and traveling with a shape changing whiffadil with a preference for penguin shaped and talking film noir. The first part of the book, written by Steve Parkhurst and drawn by John Ridgeway, is a perfect storm of what's possible with this Doctor in this genre – a mad and wonderful pursuit through diverse realities almost crashing entirely through the fourth wall…almost. And although that's generally considered the better part the second part (change of writers to Alan MacKensie) I also found really enjoyable. I looked for this book for ages, I'm well glad I could get it at Mighty Ape because it is everything it's formidable reputation says it is.
