Excerpt from Dominion Dental Journal, 1914, Vol. 26: Official Organ of All Dental Associations in Canada That Miller realized that his researches did not account for all of the phenomena of decay is clearly evident from his writings, for during the later years of his active life his attention was focused directly upon the problem of susceptibility and immunity to decay, and his studies were directed toward the task of harmonizing what he had already discovered about the etiology of dental caries with certain obscure features of the problem which did not seem to be explainable upon the basis of the con elusion which he had already reached. Briefly stated, Miller's researches have failed to explain the generally recognized phenomenon of variability in the susceptibility to caries.
