Doom 3 (Essentials) previews

Doom 3 is a game with delicious graphics wrapped around an unbelievable story; traversing to hell and back. The 3D surround sound effects make you sit tense on your seat and jump at the sudden attacks that are more common than not.

The Doom 3 levels are very dark, needing you to hold a torch through most of them; you cant hold a firearm and a torch at the same time. The number of levels should keep the most avid gamer playing for at least three days. A decent graphics card is needed if you are to play this game. It ruins the experience if the grapics are choppy or the game keeps hesitating.

The multiplayer features were just a last thought added on and the game does not have much to say for re-playability, but all in all, it's a great game and well worth purchasing.

this game annoyed the *#@! out of me from the beginning,very very repetitive,go into a room,the lights go out,a few monsters appear,you shoot them,go into another room.lights go out etc Very hard to see the graphics because your almost always in the dark Had a few driver problems,game locking up,seemed to be sorted with dna"s latest drivers which have an optimised option for doom 3 my card is a radeon 9600×t. i can't believe the rave reviews this game is getting,people must be brainwashed by all the pre release hype Maybe my expectations were too high

The grahphics awsome. The sound scary. Basic funtions easy. This is a really awsome game. The best i have seen in a while. And the scariest. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

As with most ID titles, I didn't expect much other than a visual feast married to fairly basic gameplay which in this case harkens back to the original Doom, so I got what I paid for in spades.

The atmosphere and visuals are mind blowing, but other than the excellent computer displays dotted throughout the levels, and the obligatory wall switches, the environment is sadly lacking in interactive bits.

That being said, I've always viewed ID as a technology company, not immersive game designers. Thats what Raven, Vivendi and the others who will be lining up to license this simply amazing game engine will provide. I for one cannot wait to see what amazing games will be built on it, and how far the envelope will be pushed in the future.

I wonder if they'll use this to make Heretic 3? (but not in 3rd person dammit)

A very pretty game and technically very well done. Will certainly push your machine to its limits. Don't even think of turning on anti-aliasing unless you have a very high-end graphics card :-)

Gameplay wise, the maps are too similar and there is a distinct lack of variety in the first half of the game. Far Cry, the Medal of Honours and Call of Duty are more fun to play than this.

Some will dislike its cramped claustrophobic atmosphere. Lacks the vast monster swarms of its ancestors.

Worth getting, but not worth upgrading your machine for.

I've nearly finished the game and it is riddled with eye candy galore. The best interactive consoles I've ever seen. I just love the weapons. The scariest game ever especially the sound quality makes you look behind your back. This game will set the benchmark for all other games to follow.

Wow I thought this game would really kick ass, but sadly it doesn't. The beginning was pretty scary and was fun. eg Resident Evil. As I played more and more I realized this is stupid, I've got to find key access codes? Lame… No story either… Yea so the graphics are great, so what. If there isn't a story the game just can't be that great, which it isn't.

In my very humble opinion, it does not live up to its hype. It’s merely an average game, not the revolutionary piece of software some thought it would be… I think the game will sell well based on its name and hype alone. Some sites and magazines will probably give it rave reviews just because it’s DOOM 3 and not because it deserves it.

In a nutshell after getting over the initial ‘wow’ factor I am actually bored of the game. Games like Call of Duty and Far Cry were a lot more fun to play. This becomes very repetitive very fast…yawn Im off for some fun gaming aka bf1942 and Desert Combat.

I am extremely impressed! ID have outdone themselves with this stunning game. The graphics and detail are outstanding, with monsters that will scare the bejesus out of you.

The introduction is superb, and flows smoothly throughout. The video sequences are really well done, so realistic you will lose yourself in the gameplay in an instant.

Doom 3 has definitely been worth the anticipation, and has come a long way since I played the very first Doom.

A must for hard-core Doom fans, and highly recommended to those looking for an intense, well designed first person shooter.

Arrived this morning, first thing at 7am. Excellent. I've just completed a couple of hours of gameplay, and its truly scary. The graphics engine is definitely what it was touted to be, and I haven't even seen the whole game yet. It won't disappoint anyone who plays it.. Finally a game that is capable of bringing my system to a crawl.. (on the Ultra Setting)!

Beautiful eye candy. Beautiful gameplay. Scary sound effects and music. Look forward to completing it. Worth every dollar!

Id Software have perfected this game, and it shows during the gameplay and the sharp graphics.

The game is very well done and it has not ruined the original Doom series at all, it still has the frightning atmosphere from the orinigal Doom.

It is a MUST for any Doom fan from the old days, If you can't run it, then buy a new computer because it is worth it.
