Downton Abbey Season 4 reviews

Missing Mathew but Mary is acting so well as the widow. Wondering where the story line will take us. i see problems ahead for Edith if her beau takes German citizenship with the war on the horizon. Julian Fellowes looking far ahead !!

One of the best period costume series I have watched in a long time. Season 4 starts 6 months after Matthew's death, so expect a first sad episode. The wonderful setting for the scenes at Highclere Castle brings to life all those who live and work with in Downton Abbey walls. The acting is brillinat, the styles of the cloths, the hair do's, and the story lines with it's twists and turns, keeps one clued to the screen. until the final episode.

Episode 1 of season 1 was in 1912 with the sinking of the Titanic. This season is in 1921–22 and not one of the cast look a day older. Kitchen-maid Daisy was probably 15 the so should be 25 now. Likewise Violet hasn't aged a bit. Not very believable.

Excellent continuation of a most excellent series.

Worth watching if only to see the magnificent Maggie Smith in action.

From the moment I start watching I am transported back to that time and place. I t is as though I am living the dream.

Sent away for downton abbey season 4, surprised how quickly it arrived and sat and watched and watched. Really enjoying the series. We'll done.

Usual high standard acting & production.

Downton Abbey is one of the best TV dramatizations I have ever seen. The storyline in Series 4 is such that we tend to think about it in modern day terms but I have seen interviews with different cast members that really puts another slant on things and how it would have been viewed at that time. I won't say anymore because I don't want to give it away for those who are yet to see it.

Series 4 of Downton Abbey follows the other series in that it is great entertainment. Its great strength is twofold, first the actors in creating interesting and believable charactors and second the period settings and especially the clothes. Its weakness is the plot lines which are sometimes just silly. I will give credit to Julian Fellows for the great one liners for Maggie Smith.

Loving this series, took us a little while to get into this series but once we did we couldn't stop watching it. love the scenery, costumes and the whole series is done with such professionalism, the actors are well selected and hope to see more!!

I think that the time of grieve was very real. It brings a lot of problem up from daily life. I absolutely love the series. Can't wait for number 5.

Once again, we enjoyed Downton Abbey's latest season – only complaint is that 8 episodes is just not enough!! Will look forward to Season 5.

Maggie Smith still has that magical quality to milk a line and to steal scene while bringing a core element of the series to our notice. She is a constant reminder of how change affected the English aristocracy in the early twentieth century and how an element of pragmatism was needed in its survival. She is ably backed up by the main characters in this superior soap opera.

Dowton Abbey this Season is good we have enjoyed all the seasons the next one should be even better.

After a thrilling finale to the end of Season 3, Season 4 kicks into overdrive leaving viewers (at times) gob-smacked!

Great series, well acted period drama. This season provides a lot of drama and leaves a lot of unanswered questions. Its a must watch

I loved seasons 1–3 and season 4 continues the high quality drama.

It is a great series full of pomp of the era I really enjoyed every minute

I'm finally over Matthew's death and can watch DA again! You won't be disappointed. This season has a few twists and turns but the calibre of acting is absolutely fantastic, and as always, understated as the English do best! Must watch!

Haven't seen it to the end yet, but can't wait to see what happens, just as enjoyable as the first.
