Earth Defense Force: The Shadow of New Despair reviews

In an era of gaming filled with pretentious stories, pretty graphics but very little interesting/fun gameplay, Earth Defense Force 4.1 brings cheesy voice overs, giant insects and utterly chaotic and frantic 3rd person shooter fun in this updated version of EDF 2025 (originally on PS3/Xbox 360). Also with a very rare feature that most games lack nowadays, COUCH CO OP! If you're looking for the video game equivalent of 90s action film Starship Troopers, you've come to the right place.

Killing giant bugs and robots is fun and this game has them both.

I really like this title, and have been playing it in couch co-op mode, a rare feature. It's not an absolute 5-star game, as the dialogue is “interesting” (count how many times “Giant Insect” is mentioned) and the difficulty curve goes from easy to “Holy 5h17” relatively quickly. Still, this game is worth every cent, and I regret nothing.

Brilliant! Loved every bit of it. Challenging and fun. I had NEVER heard of it but its brilliant!

Well this game is terribly boring and addictive at the same time. Who likes this terrible game without any story. All you're doing is the same thing over and over.

It's only bearable to play with mates or online.
