The life of Inspector Kurt Wallander has changed slightly: not only he has realized his dream of owning a house in the countryside, but also, his daughter Linda made him a grandfather. However, their tranquility is disturbed shortly after a cold winter day in 2008, when the father-in-law of Linda, a senior official of the Swedish Navy called Hkan von Enke, disappears into a forest near Stockholm. Although research is led by Stockholm police, Wallander cannot help but getting involved, especially when a second person disappears under mysterious circumstances.
