"Only like it for the story"

The story is cool (as it's a re-imaging of the Chinese story Journey to the West), and distracting enemies is great fun and blends in with the story very well, rather than being a ‘hey look at this cool thing you can do’.

The thing that makes this almost unplayable though is the camera and how it's constantly bobbing around like shaky cam in movies. I have to close my eyes just so they don't hurt sometimes. I'm constantly moving the right stick to try steady the camera.

The combat itself is very lame. Repeated hold square, then hit triangle twice then hold block and go again. There's really no other way to fight because there's no combos other than square, square, square, and triangle, triangle. You get such limited amount of ammo there's no point in shooting.

There's almost no point in dodging as it doesn't get you far. You might as well have just walked there. It would have been better if the dodge was left stick + block rather than left stick + jump, because sometimes he'll jump and sometimes he'll dodge.

Overall, it's not a BAD game. The story is what makes this game worth getting

I was really looking forward to playing this game after having played the awesome Heavenly Sword which had such a great story, so coming into this maybe I expected to much, dont get me wrong this game is great and so is the story.

The 1st half of this game starts off real good but once you pass half-way it starts to drop story wise like they dont know where they want to go with it. But at a cheap price this would be a must buy.

"Freestyle Fantasy Action!!"

This game is quite enjoyable. The graphics are fantastic aswell as the story line and game play. One down side I found was the camera angles with many finishing attacks that go in slow-mo. Over-all this game will keep you interested throughout. The features are great! The characters are pretty cool apart from Pigsy whose just disturbing. Its an easy game to follow in ruite, killing robots grows on you during game play. Another great smash em up game with a small amount of tactic and accuracy techniques invloved.

"Fun action game, great story, limited replayability"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game is great. It's an engaging, free flow, beat-em-up action platformer with a fantastic story to boot. Beating up mechs is always a satisfying endeavour and with the upgrade system also a rewarding one.

The fighting never gets too tedious, there are a variety of different enemies to fight and unique boss battles to keep you wanting more for the entire experience.

It is a journey, but one that seems to be over a little too quick. With such a moving story the urge to replay the game isn't really there and with nothing much to do afterwards besides collect a few more floating orbs the ease of putting down this game after just short of twenty hours and never picking it up again is quite apparent.

It is still a masterpiece of game design despite a few jagged edges and a wonky camera. Absolutely worth picking it up (considering the price) for a quick blast through post-apocalyptia.

"Underrated Gem"

Ninja Theory's ‘Enslaved: Odyssey to the West’ is a hell of a game. Beautiful graphics, a gripping story, great characters (and development of characters), and varied gameplay create an experience worth seeing through till the end.

Minor gripes would be the sometimes sluggish controls, as combat is good but not as great as it could be, and platforming seems far too easy in most parts.

However this shouldn't deter you from at least trying the game out for yourself. Try it, and you might be in for a treat.

Really good game I enjoyed it heaps amazing story line, any hardcore gamer that is into a fantasy styled game should play this.

Really nice back rounds and charcters really fun game with the parkour aspect that the lead hero “monkey” does the fighting style repeatative but still a good game ^__^

"Story driven Adventure!" Purchased on Mighty Ape

Enslaved: Odessey to the West

Based on an old chinese legend – adapted to a futuristic post apocalyptic Earth

Fun gameplay nothing ground breaking but offers, as far as im concerned, the best voice acting/facial emotion to date of any game from any console. Humour, anger and love Enslaved gives the gamer a story driven adventure with very basic game mechanics great for the casual gamer.

Not a fan of story driven games- this may not be for you.

Very good game with amazing cinematic scenes. The only problem with the game is that the PS3 version has a lot of frame rate issues.

An easy and simple game but will keep you stuck in until it's over.

Not the hardest game, but enjoyable nevertheless. Visually attractive and fair game to play. None of the challenges are that difficult but a reasonable bit of gameplay.

The demo sold me, but i was not that amazed once i had it. A simple yet thought out story for a game that let me down in the battle scene's a lot with bad camera angles, the lack of targeting a enemy left me frustrated and constantly redoing sections over and over. The hunt for health grew tiresome and the constant “arena” game style bored me when you'd run around looking at the great environments, do a little talking and then get locked into an area with unknown enemies entering at scripted sequences and were only released when all were defeated.

Overall it looks great but was extremely easy to put down and play something else.

"A fantastic experience with forgivable faults."

I'm not a particularly big third person adventure fan but I really love this game. The visuals are fantastic and the environments are inventive. A small gripe is that the platforming is completely streamlined, you have no choice over where to go. However, this didn't really bother me because you're still looking for that one path you have to follow and to be honest I just don't care if I can't choose whether I want to use that pipe to scale that wall. The characters are unique and even if Trip and Pigsy annoy you at first, they become more useful and likable as the game progresses. There is one hell of a story here, delivered with powerful emotion in the cut scenes. The facial animation is superb because they used motion capture and this certainly adds to the experience. The sound is fantastic, but only when it works. In game I had no issues but sometimes cut scenes just broke, leaving voices out of sync and weird changes in volume. Finally the combat is excellent. I've read some reviews that talked about slow controls but I had no problems. Battles are always interesting because Monkey really does need to be relatively tactical against enemies that block effectively and are quite a challenge in big groups. Overall, a fantastic experience with some minor bugs, go pick it up.

"Monkey is funky and Pigsy is not.."

I thought the character names were a bit familiar (Trip, Monkey, Pigsy) but it still took me a while to click and remember the show ‘Monkey’ from the 80's. Luckily the only bits of it they've used are the names, the fact that Monkey is controlled by Trip(itaka) via a headband thing, and he's able to ride on a flying ‘cloud’ sometimes. Otherwise, it doesn't bear alot of resemblance to the tv show, and it is a great game. Very pretty, good interraction between the characters, great voice acting and movement, and the puzzles are pretty good although not as challenging as I normally like. The combat system is well executed, and set up well to develop strategies for each type of MOB you encounter. I recommend this game to anyone who likes a bit of smashy smashy, but also digs a good story and some visual candy.

"Fantastic visuals, good gamplay and characters but weak ending"
4 stars"

Post apocalypse is in fashion lately and has been done to death. Yet Enslaved's fantastic visuals and settings brings a totally fresh view on the end of the world. The game play is interesting and varied with new abilities and skills added right up to later chapters. Monkey can be a bit slow to react at times and this did end up with some interesting shouting at the PS3. A bit frustrating but it did enhance the panic and excitement of the game. If you are into action games and like good scenery then this is a fantastic game for you.

Liked the reference to the old chinese legend of the monkey king as the characters names suggest

To be perfectly honest, I only bought this game because I was looking for a way to pass time until another game I was waiting for. I'm glad I did. If I were to compare this game to anything, I'd say it's like Darksiders, but pretty. It has a very “Uncharted” feel to it, especially with the female companion. This is definitely a game I'd recommend, and a game I'm glad is in my permanent collection.
