Author Biography:

Soo Downe is Professor in Midwifery Studies at University ofCentral Lancashire. She is the founder member, steering groupmember, and Chair of the Royal College of Midwives Campaign forNormal Birth, the Francine Gooris International Midwifery Chair inBelgium, Chair of the International Confederation of Midwivesresearch standing committee and Visiting Professor,Kwong WahHospital, Hong Kong. Sheena Byrom is a Consultant Midwife at both theUniversity of Central Lancashire and East Lancashire Hospitals NHSTrust. She is a member of the National Consultant Midwives Groupand member of several East Lancashire stategic partnership boardsfor Teenage Pregnancy, Domestic Abuse and Sure Start Louise Simpson is a postgraduate student at theUniversity of Central Lancahire, currently working on a PhDentitled 'Midwives views of the nature of midwifery expertise',supervised by Soo Downe and Sheena Byrom.
