Funny and bit gory, lots of action, good!
Very few horror movies actually scare me now, but this one still has me clutching a pillow over my head in some parts. A crazy rollercoaster ride of non-stop horror and action.
Sam Raimi directed the original Evil Dead, which was, and still is, a ripper of a horror film, awash with plenty of humour and gore. In 1987, he helmed the first sequel (Evil Dead 2), which is, in my opinion, just as excellent. Not so much a continuation of the story, but a re-telling, it as far more slapstick-style humour, and although still very gory, its tongue-in-cheek approach means that the viewer is far less likely to feel queasy as a result. Mad and extremely fast-paced, I highly recommend this gem!
Evil Dead 2
Evil Dead 2 is a sophisticated blood and gore satire with wall-to-wall special effects that concentrates on the classic conflict between good and evil.
In an apparently forsaken cottage, Ash and Linda discover a tape recorder. They turn it on to hear the voice of Professor Knowby, who has successfully translated ‘The book of the dead.’ His words awaken the spirit of evil, possessing Linda. Ash begins his relentless battle against an all-powerful evil that takes many forms including the trees, Linda's decapitated head and even his own hand.
When evil appears to get the upper hand it is left to Ash to don chainsaw and shotgun and rid the world of the demon spirit by dawn.
