Description

Flip Nicklin is widely considered one of the foremost dolphin and whale photographers in the world, and he has contributed to 20 National Geographic Magazine articles. In "Face to Face with Whales", with the help of his wife and partner, Linda Nicklin, he shares his exciting underwater adventures and his vast knowledge of the whale's watery domain. Learn about the many different kinds of whales, from humpbacks to belugas, and discover that whales are mammals who breathe air and give birth to one live baby that they nurse with milk. See what makes these normous creatures so majestic and catch a glimpse into their largely secret and unknown world. What we know and think about these intelligent creatures can affect their ultimate survival, even as they continue to bounce back from years of overhunting from the historic whaling industry. As Flip notes, there is a lot we don't know about these intelligent social animals. He firmly believes it has been and will continue to be a lot of fun to find out the rest of the story. Fun sidebars offer concrete insight into whale life, and include tips on whale watching. As with each "Face to Face" book, helpful and accessible back matter, especially designed for report writers, includes a facts-at-a-glance section, a conservation feature, a science inquiry exercise, a glossary, an index, and how to find out more.
