With J K. Rowling, nothing is ever really bad. This film, however, although beautifully acted by Eddie Redmayne, lacks – more than anything – a plot that grips the audience's minds. The film has elegant special effects and that's half the problem. It concentrates on dazzling us with them and almost forgets that any halfway-decent movie needs a halfway-decent plot. In this regard the film fails to live up to the standards I think Ms Rowling has, in all her previous work, set for herself. Still, even a poor-ish Rowling story is as good as excellent work from almost anyone else. Buy and enjoy
