"No linear shooter here"
5 stars"

Coming from shooters like COD4 and alikes ,it really is a refreshing change to have 50kms of freedom , yes this is not a linear shooter. Running this game on high settings , I changed my clock to a dawn attack , hoping to get the element of surprise. Watching the sun rise and the way it changed the landscape was incredible. I pulled out my map , viewed the guards through my monocular and followed an old dried creek bed until I was within attacking range. I shot some gas cans and a ammo dump to create a very impressive series of explosions , and proceeded to take out the guards , find a diamond and create a bush fire which then caught fire to a tree and burned it down to a crisp. Hmmm can anyone tell me when a fps gave you so many options without being ushered through the next scripted event? The weapons sound and look great , the al can sometimes look and act like they have just finished a reefer , but this only lends to using your machete which is really very satisfying. I could go on about the endless choice you have. For someone like me who dosn't have huge amounts of time to game and has a busy business to run , playing Far Cry 2 is the perfect escape to a African safari which includes great graphics , better then average al , great weapons and sounds , and if the killing is getting you down-lol , you can set your watch for 6am, sit on the hill the watch the sun rise.

"A far cry from Far Cry"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Other than the obvious benefits of title recognition, there is no reason for this game to have been called “Far Cry 2” – the original was always more of a tech demo than an actual game, but Ubisoft Montreal has succeeded in creating the first truly convincing open-world FPS.

Swapping genetic-experiment-gone-wrong infested tropical islands with the savannahs, desserts and jungles of Africa, Far Cry 2 is an utterly immersive game thanks largely to its impressive graphics. Though not as technically astounding as Crysis, they are nonetheless breathtaking at times, from the swaying of foliage and flashing lightning during a thunderstorm to the clouds of debris thrown up by an explosion. Animations are uniformly superb- never leaving the first person viewpoint, actions such as entering a car, performing first aid or unjamming a weapon are all utterly believable and completely immersive. Another plus is that the game runs far smoother than Crytek's recent offerings.

Gameplay is much as one would expect from an open world shooter: you drive to a location and are given a mission. You then drive to the mission area and complete said objective. Lather, rinse, repeat. The missions themselves are a blast, especially with optional objectives given to you by a randomly assigned AI buddy. The games AI is a little patchy in places. Enemies generally do a good job of hunting you down, but the way they can occasionally spot you and shoot you from a mile away often puts paid to any notions of a stealthy approach, whereas other times they'll simply ignore you.

The games size is both its greatest asset and problem. Of the 50 hours play the title boasts, its likely you'll spend half of it driving – a problem further compounded by the speed at which enemy checkpoints are repopulated.

If you're after a huge, immersive semi-tactical shooter that is heavy on action, light on story with a decent (if a little cliched) multiplayer and features one of the most brilliantly realised video game settings ever, look no further than Far Cry 2.

"Wow"
5 stars"

Simply awesome game.

You start off in a jeep with a tour guide explaining the basics of what is happening, and right from hear, you see the vast openness of what is Far Cry 2.

You start of as a gun-for-hire. You can do missions for two factions the UFLL or APR, your buddies, the guys at Mikes Bar and Marina which are the two pubs/drinking places, you can get assassination missions from your cellphone, doctor missions for pills for your malaria, and missions for the gunshop which unlocks more toys to play with. The great thing about Far Cry 2 is, that if you get bored of doing the missions, there are plenty of areas to explore, like towns, diamond mines, plane crash sites, etc and everything you do has an impact on the story. It truly is amazing, being able to go to a mission and decide if you want to go in stealthy, plant the explosives and sneak out, or go in with a RPG, a MG42, Grenade Launcher and blow the crap out of everyone you see. A must-buy for any FPS enthusiast

"Amazing"
5 stars"

Far Cry 2 is certainly like no other shooter. It is an experience which succeeds in every way. The story, Graphics, and Gameplay are all simply phenomenal.

Graphics are an important feature of Far Cry 2. Not only does the game look wonderful, but the character and animal models are very realistic, too. This is one of the best looking games I have ever played.

Based in Africa, FC2 has a great storyline, and good sound effects and music to match. This is a game you will be playing for months to come.

"Needs more substance"
3 stars"

The game looks and plays fantastically! Even on older machines (think p4 with a gig of ram and an agp video card). The big problem with Farcry 2 is i almost get the feeling the developers spent all this time on the sceenery and mechanics, they almost forgot to add a story and AI. As a result the story is hard to follow and the missions are all the same with far too much driving in between. The AI is good but almost ALL the dudes you will see will instantly shoot you up regardless of who you are working for (they say this is because the player is performing ‘secret’ missions but i put this down to lazyness on the part of the developer). Then theres the size. Sure its a huge open ended non-linear world with lots of detail and such … but its almost too non-linear. I got the feeling as i played that there was no real goal to the game other then to do haphazard missions for random interchangable NPC factions, Murder dudes and drive around aimlessly in the desert.

"Brilliant Game"
5 stars"

This game is simply stunning. Jaw-droppingly beautiful. Intelligent AI. I've played this game through about six times and I'm sure I will do so again. The sheer amount of content makes this sandbox world thoroughly enjoyable.

Diamond hunting, Jackal Tapes, SECRET MISSIONS ;) there is just so much to do, how could anyone get bored?

And it looks pretty too!

"Stunning graphics boring game"
1 stars"

I loved the original Far Cry and like many people had been eagerly awaiting the release of this game. Graphically it is absolutely stunning, with amazing terrain, sunsets etc, but after playing the game to about 50% of the way through, I would have to say it is one of the most boring FPS games I have ever played. It is just so repetitive, with no surprises. Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Call Of Duty World at War leave this game for dead.

"good but not great"
4 stars"

Ok lets start with the open world it really is a great feature, there is great use of opposing factions and the entire world feels like it has been effect by the confict going on between the two factions. Also the side missions are nicely done its surprisingly fun trying to find all the diamonds throughout and is a good way to explore the map. Now for the enemy AI from what I had read I thought it was going to be really good but it turns out its not amazing. Enemies usely took a direct path towards me and didnt do anything cool to evade me like FEAR whcih I thought had much better AI. This does change to an extent as the game goes on as you earn allies things start to change which makes for interesting situations. Multiplayer is very good with all the usual modes plus more. The way they have implemented fire is the best feature for me being able to burn out enemies is fun and to just stand and watch the fire spread. Also it runs alot better on my computer than other new games. But for me its good not great as I didnt like the need to consume malaria medication, respawning bad guys and some repetitive missions.

"Good, Worth Buying."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Don't get me wrong this game is good but would have to say also some will hate it some will love it. The game does feel a little gutless in my opinion though there sure is so much to do and explore that even this out. Graphics aren't on par with Crysis but it runs butter smooth with stunning visuals at times, particulary the fire and day and night time cycles.

Positives: Great visuals (with decent gfx card), Immersion is amazing i.e getting into vehicles, going through doors, quests are well connected and there is no lack of action. Theres just alot to do aswell as having a good reply value.

Negatives: Ha DRM, but this shouldnt put people of buying this game, I think your entitled to download a crack anyways which isnt a big deal if you hate it that much. Long introduction can get repetative.

The thing is this has all been done before well atleast in separate games, this just crunches everything together. Main things that will keep you going is the fire fight moments when taking hits and ripping crap out of your beat up body and poppin back pills to beat off the malaria and course the attention to detail is breath taking at times.

Don't regret buying it. Mighty Ape FTW.

"Don't believe all the hype but you'll still enjoy it."
4 stars"

I suspect the best thing about Far Cry 2 is that they took it out of Crytek's hands otherwise we'd end up with giant cyborg lions to fight at the end. This is definitely one of the better games this year but a lot of the changes, such as the health system, just seem like they're only fiddling with bits here and there rather than taking a fresh approach to the game. I enjoyed playing it but I doubt I'll play it again once I've finished it.

"Not good enough"

small map, repetative tasks, boring. Loved the first series, the original farcry, but not this one. no replay value at all. 2stars entirely from graphic and the graphic's been optimized quite well.

"Bitterly disappointed"
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Absolutely loved the original Farcry, and have played it many many times together with the huge amount of maps available.

Didn't even bother finishing this one though,I thought it was one of the most repetitive and boring games I've played in a long time and not even the very nice lighting and shader effects could save it for me.

"A staggering effort..."
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Unfortunately for the most part you are not greatly welcomed by the majority of the local, but in a way this merely adds to the experience…

I was pleasantly surprised with this game and, considering others on the market, its lack of repetitiveness. This factor, i suppose, is partly due to the seemingly endless 50km's of freedom. Fortunately to help you navigate throughout this savannah there is a bus service among other things which provide an air of originality to this game. You will not be disappointed by the graphics, with the elements of fire and water topping the list for me.

The freedom which this game beholds is also helped greatly by the level of personalization, for example you can even select what time of day you would like it to be.

Overall this game provides the user with a refreshing and original alternative to a lot of other first person shooters, and will unfortunately occupy a large portion of your free time…

"Great story and gameplay"
4 stars"

This is a big change from the first one but dont let that get you down. Its still a great game and the graphics is amazing where the flames look so realistic. the shadows is great probably the best Ive ever seen. its a great game. if your Afrikaans you will find the things funny what they say but its fun. its really a great game and a great story. its something els out there. 8.5 / 10

"Poor meandering game that just didn't appeal."
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

After reading some reviews on this game i was looking forward to playing it. Yhis may be a real case of each unto their own as after playing this for a couple of hours I gave up on it as it just seems to meander along and I quckly lost insterst in it. I owned this game for approximatly five hours form the time I recieved it, played it, uninstalled it and then threw it out in the wheelie bin.

"Great game"

It's a great game, if you like to do things on your own time table. You can pick up missions as you feel, or go straight with the storyline.

Great scenery and good AI with clever inter AI character dialoging. I really enjoyed the open exploration.

"Excellent gaming"

Awesome game , esp if you have a really good graphics card that can handle it , hours of fun exploring a vast map of africa . A couple of bigs from ubisoft on this but they usually go away after you've updated the game

"Not your average corridor shooter"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Visually lush, undemanding of graphics hardware and a relatively open sandbox type game makes FC2 a very enjoyable experience that offers more leeway in tackling the game quests than many of its contemporaries.

"Fantastic and realistic"
2 stars"

I think this game is fantastic and graphics amazing. I'm from South Africa and I know it's like this for real, not the intense murder but most is real. They took HD video's and photo's and put them into the game. Wild game was on the dot.

"Controls dont respond with the game"

Not happy the game wont respond to my game pad So I given up on the game, it seems a lot of games Dont work like they should like cod black ops

"A great game, but quite different from the first."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I purchased this game because I loved the first one so much – who would love running around a tropical island firing a gun?! And at first it seemed like the same game, just in a different location. The graphics are outstanding, just as the original Far Cry was when it was released.

But there are some differences. One of the first things I noticed was that the binoculars were gone – no more spotting enemies and then keeping them on your radar permanently. Suddenly I felt a little more vulnerable out there…this was further increased when I realised that the game can only be saved at certain “save points” – no quick save in this game!

But then there are some great differences too weapons jamming and exploding and the ability to buy shiny new ones in exchange for diamonds discovered on the way. The concept works really well and made me think twice before picking up a rusty old weapon – no matter how fancy – and dropping a new, reliable one. The enemy AI is also a lot better – no more sitting in a bush while enemies run around unable to spot you from close range!

When I look back at the things that I didn't like, I realised it was because I am a naturally cautious player – a little too reliant on the quick save. This game has a lot too offer and is well worth playing. I recommend this game to anyone looking for a challenge and some eye candy – and the environment is so beautiful you can spend your holidays playing it and imagine you're in Africa…just watch out for the mosquitos!

"A good Game, I liked it lots but the first one was better." Purchased on Mighty Ape

A good Game, I liked it lots but the first one was better. I like the open design of far cry 2 but I like the way far cry 1 was done better.

"Massive but repetitive"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This game presents a massive immersive experience of being in a war-torn african country but has little to do there.

Visually this game is very impressive and not just from a technical standpoint, the attention to detail is also good, as is the immersion, from the distant whinny of zebra to the beautifully rendered water. However the missions are simple run-and-gun type requests (go here and teminate this person or structure). The story is relatively thin, and doesn't offer much incentive to play the main mission through. There is a buddy system that seems under utilized as well as the annoying fact that you can't shoot while driving (you have to stop to shoot). Controls are simple but effective. Unfortunately there seems to be only 5 drivable vehicles, and their handling is simplistic, but enjoyable. Some realistic touches like the gun will jam more if it's worn help get you to spend money. The “hidden diamond” sub-game is also mildly fun, giving you some incentive to explore the vast landscape.

Overall a good game, but not too deep. Think of it as if GTA4 took itself seriously. Hopefully the PC community can mod it to make improvements.

"Awesome game!"
5 stars"

A great game, AND VERY realistic! A hard but very fun game, and the best free roming shooter game out there!

"Great Fast paced FPS "
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Far Cry 2 explores quite thoroughly conflict in Africa, you play a gun for hire who is suffering from malaria. Your goal, the elimination of the Jackal, an arms dealer that is profiting froms supplying both sides.
In your quest to seek the Jackal odd missions are available to supply yourself with malaria medication or rough diamonds the only currency worth a damn. There are many approaches to attack each mission, full on frontal assualt, stealthy sniping of enemies, throwing molotov cocktails and letting fire sweep down into a village and do mos tof the work for you. Truely the graphics and physics are the most impressive feature of the game, fire behaves the way you expect, the shadows are beautifully rendered provided you're system has enough juice in it. Now the cons, the plot is lackluster there is a really poor sense of direction in this game, aside from what was detailed above, if it is a story you are after this game is not for you. If you just want a fast paced FPS this game can have you shooting at your best in no time.

"Seems like a good game"

I get the game 2 months late thanks to Courier Post and I finally get it and found out my computer is too slow. Other then that seems like a good game to play. Cheers Mighty Ape

"Open until the end"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Far cry two was entertaining, full of action, and very, very open. You can complete missions to earn diamonds, which you then use to buy weapons, upgrades, and other useful things. At the start of the game you get malaria, which you have for the duration of the game, and causes occasional blurred vision, falling over and you are unable to fight. Fortunately you get medicaton, and as long as you keep a supply of it, it's not a problem. Overall, I really liked this game, but the reason it got four stars is because once you finish the main story, you can't keep playing, it's game over, and also because in multiplayer all my weapons and levels have randomly reset from time to time. Other than that, its great!

"creative destruction"

Graphics and story are amazing, really keeps you moving along and action doesn't stop. Great selection of weapons to choose from. the enviroment holds you interest even while driving around between missions or just causing some general chaos

"Outstanding older game, still very much worth a play"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Sometimes, older games can be a real bargain. Once a game's a few years old, it's easy to track down copies at very low prices. I had played Far Cry 2 for a short time when it was released in 2008, but due to a hardware failure, didn't continue, and foolishly gave away my copy. Recently, when I noticed the game was available from Mighty Ape, I decided to give it another try. At the time it was released, it was a beautiful looking game, and played very well. That hasn't changed, and modern hardware helps it really shine (despite my fairly aged GeForce 7900 video card). It's still an immersive, atmospheric experience, and wonderfully bug-free. I'm becoming more accustomed to games with large numbers of glitches (see Red Dead Redemption glitches on YouTube for some very amusing examples), so any game I play in which I can't spot any flaws has to be a bit special. It's hard to find much to criticise in Far Cry 2. Sometimes the story seems a little fragmented, with missions not following very logically from each other. The initial load time is a little long (though loading in-game is very quick) – my mixed bag of hardware may be partially to blame here. These are very minor, and really, I'm struggling to come up with more. Currently about halfway through the game, I'm enjoying it a great deal, and wishing that I had more time to play games. This one's definitely worth it, unlike some older games I've revisited recently. I'd say buy it and lose yourself in the beautifully rendered, seamless environment that is Ubisoft's Africa.

"not what i expected"

this game does not follow any part of far cry one at all the only similar thing is the name. it is a great game though the graphics are great and i love the way it utilises directX 10. really fun but repetitive gameplay and also a very unique game in general i havent seen any other game pull off what farcry 2 is trying to do this well, and that is make a nice open jungle world with repetitive missions that still remain fun after playing it for hours on end.

Takes a little getting used to the keyboard controls, however once the game starts it gets quite interesting.

Not too great with the re-loading when you get killed, however gives you time to make a cuppa.

"One amazing game"

Graphics= amazing Campain= awesome Multiplayer= OUT OF THIS WORLD

One experience that is worth having. Far Cry 2 features some of the most realistic gameplay ever seen. With injuries, Weapons and tactics the most fun part of the whole game. Possibly the best aspect is the multiplayer option. Either LAN or internet, it is so much fun to blow up your friends and enemies to your hearts content. Money Well spent and bargin for the game price.

"pretty good game"
4 stars"

ok so first off this game has soooo much free roaming space (50km i think) but of course this has a downside. you can spend far too long trying to get back to one place (of course you can take the bus but then you loose your car)

upgardeable weapons . about time. who doesnt love a game where you can upgrade your wepons. for betting slaughtering power! oh the flame thrower who doesnt love it.

the game has real gun issues:

the guns jam and break. just like in real life adding an extra little bit of fun to the game.

all in all this is a pretty great game. i advise people to buy it!

but hay the guy drives while looking at a map… pretty dangerous

"Travelling in Africa"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Not a bad shooter game, gets a bit boring going around and around shooting people and vehicles up, finding the diamonds and locating the different people to get a job. Though the .50 calibre would shoot through the smaller trees as in the first Fry Cry, it's not so in 2. A little disappiontment there.
