Well, after receiving it this morning and playing it for 6 hours now, I've decided it is one of the most enthralling Shooter's this year.

One thing you will immediately notice in the opening is that the graphics are stunning. If you have a full 1080p hi def TV you will see some of the most – if not the best fire effects, water effects, and some of the character and animal modeling is great, too.

You can tell that Ubisoft have put a lot of effort in, so far the story has been compelling, and almost every aspect is just top-notch.

I have found, however that the weapon aiming can be pretty difficult to immediately lock yourself onto an enemy, and this isn't necessarily a negative thing, since more and more games are incorporating the “auto lock on” thing which immediately targets your enemy. This simply adds to the scare when an enemy creeps up behind you.

This brings me to my next point, the AI (or, enemy intelligence), is superb. No matter what angle, slope, or whatever you are, the enemy will always manage to find you, which makes the entire game feel so much more ‘alive’.

Another brilliant thing is the vehicles in the game. Since the game is a seemless free-roaming map, (instead of the ‘stages’ style you find in COD4, etc) there is a ton of driving in the game. Thankfully, the African dirt roads are beautiful, and, what is possibly THE BEST MAPPING SYSTEM I HAVE COME ACROSS IN A GAME, means that you absolutely always know where you are going.

Overall, the missions are varied, graphics beautiful, sound enchanting, and most importantly gameplay stunning, I have no choice but to say that I am enjoying this game even more than Fallout 3, Dead Space at the moment, lets hope that lasts!

10/10

"Great game!!!"

In every civil war, there's a moment when the lines have been drawn, but neither side wants to shoot first: a sickly, sweaty sort of time, full of mistrust, fear and empty posturing. That's where Far Cry 2 lives: a world composed primarily of tension. It hangs in the dusty air even during the opening cab ride, bubbling up suddenly as reckless traffic barrels unexpectedly past at an intersection, or threatening to boil over at that first roadblock, when the militiamen stalk around the car firing off questions and staring, sizing you up before eventually letting you past.

Games have drawn you into worlds with a first-person passenger trip before – Far Cry 2's opening is, at best, a copy of a copy – but what's different here is the subtlety of the staging. There are no death squads executing people or smug scientific installations itching to go haywire. Instead there are realistic touchstones: the cabbie pointing out a distant plane and adding that it's the last one out for a while, or that near-miss down the road, given a quiet chill by the ensuing roadblock, where you aren't attacked or beaten over the head with exposition, merely belittled and slyly informed of the playground rules of this oppressive environment.

Narrative subtlety is a quality that defines the game, yet it's not the only force at work. The tension remains, too, but it's tension of a different kind: Far Cry 2 needs its Africa to provide both a realistic backdrop of suffering and unreliability, where guns jam, cars stall, and there's always a human motive lurking in the shadows, as well as a combustible playground, where unlikely heroics turn the tide of a skirmish, and there are enough explosive barrels to keep even the most unhinged joyseeker happy. Inevitably, sparks often fly when the two agendas converge: this is an admirably serious FPS, yet one that struggles with its own identity.

Most ills can be cured with a single jab from a magic syringe – but when things get bad you'll need to get the pliers out. Technically, Far Cry 2 is a regular marvel, modestly hiding its achievements under the surface. From its sandbox, composed of miles of jungle, savannah and swampland, which requires only a single (albeit prolonged) burst of loading after fast travel or each restart, to the invisible ways the game's narrative re-stitches itself around your choices – the roles you choose not to play fitting themselves back into your story – these are the kind of technical ambitions which succeed only if you don't notice them. And you almost don't, with only the occasional hitch as you round a corner and a chunk of geometry is hanging in mid-air for a second, or when the game forces an obvious trigger point. The result is an authentic setting with an engine built to capture the particular light of every time of day, or spread unpredictable fire across its grasslands – sometimes useful, always deadly, and prone to getting comically out of hand.

And then there's the story. Other games draw their inspiration from Seagal or Norris, but this is Heart of Darkness – a book with plenty of psychological intrigue, but very few flaming jeeps driving into a barn as you're comically mown down by a passing zebra. It's safe to say that adjustments have been made.

"A good proper game"

Most games these days last about a week but this is a solid, good old game, had it for about three weeks and still only round 50% Really good fun, a little repetitive but great graphics, fire, really realistic. I would definitely recommend

"Farcry 2 falls on its promises and delivers a above average game"
3 stars"

My first impressions of Far cry 2 consisted of waiting 10 minutes in a line in Auckland to be told about the expansive terrain, expansive weaponry and expansive objectives. What I experienced when I got the game was a gameplay that didn't know if it was Grand Theft Auto, Fallout 3 or Prince of Persia. The world of Far cry 2 is HUGE, but scalability and complexity do not run hand in hand in this case, rather the game throws away the sense of direction for a all out arena style of capture and advance, leaving the player with not much incentive, inappreciable characters and a plot line which requires you to do missions subsequently to further the story. Far cry 2 doesn't push the envelope, it does however shine the best in its combat and atmosphere. Don't hold your breath for an amazing experience but take in the best aspects this game has.

"Great game, but has it's times"
5 stars"

Im not going to say that it was a bad game because that would be lying. I really enjoyed playing this game.

The graphics including the scenery and people move around on the screen rather well. The water, fire and explosion effects are excerllent. It can get jumpy if there are heaps of enemys attacking you or many things happening at one time. This is not at all a big deal to me.

During the game play I was confused about the storyline. I forgot why I was in Africa and why I was killing these guys. The plot was awfully confusing.

The thing that was disappointing was that the missions that were assigned were very similer like, kill this guy, steal the maps, destroy the convoy. That sort of thing. It started to get a little boring.

Through the whole game, every now and then your symtoms of Malaria show and have to pop a pile or you die. This may be just me but it would always happen when I was been attacked. Not a very good time to start taking pills hahaha.

Also when I finished the game I was disappointed that the ending was very short, simple and felt like there wasn't anything special.

All in all it was an action packed game and can get exciting at times. If you get bored you can have some fun in snipering peoples heads off and running them over in the jeeps. I definitely recommend the game.

"good game"
4 stars"

ok so first off this game has soooo much free roaming space (50km i think) but of course this has a downside. you can spend far too long trying to get back to one place (of course you can take the bus but then you loose your car)

upgardeable weapons . about time. who doesnt love a game where you can upgrade your wepons. for better slaughtering power! oh the flame thrower who doesnt love it.

the game has real gun issues:

the guns jam and break. just like in real life adding an extra little bit of fun to the game.

all in all this is a pretty great game. i advise people to buy it!

but hay the guy drives while looking at a map… pretty dangerous

"COOL GAME"
5 stars"

Far Cry 2 is a great game to play because it has good graphics and gameplay with heaps of fighting action. You also get cool weapons and vechicles while playing. When playing this game you can either do missons or free roam, you can also create maps and take them online in multiplayer modes. Far Cry 2 is all round a great game and every gamer should get it.

"Superb game... if you don't get snagged by one of the many bugs"
3 stars"

I can't help but think that the developers of Far Cry 2 focused more on the size of the game world than the gameplay mechanics itself.

This game is great, no doubt about that.. but only if you don't encounter the plethora of bugs present in it. Some are so bad that you will not be able to finish a game as it doesn't register a checkpoint, forcing you to reload a previous save and try again.

Whatever you do, KEEP AT LEAST 2 BUDDIES ALIVE, as having 0 or 1 alive triggers that bug.

You have been warned.

"Great game"

This is a great game. with the large map the game is much more exciting because it allows you to begin a battle from a different angle. This can give you the upper hand by taking out the enemy with a silent shot to the head bring down the numbers for you benefit.

The different weapons can allow you to create a class best suited for you needs. For the silent stealthy approach by choosing a silent MP-5 or dart rifle. Or go for the load in your face attack by blowing up the target with a rocket laucher or grenade laucher. what ever you need this game has it.

Earning money is another great thing about Farcry2. by searching for diamonds you can use what you find to buy new weapons or upgrades to optimise effectiveness. needing to find aswell as earn money puts an unusual challenge to the game making it unique and great to play.

overall Farcry2 is a great game which will entertain you for days

"Didn't really find my depth."
4 stars"

Well what do I have to say? Sure you have freedom to wander round a HUGE African savannah, sure there are loads of weapons, missions and things to do, but after all that… it feels a little low on depth.

I guess it's because my mind probably instantly compared this to another recent release, Fallout 3. But Farcry 2 just felt more generic and less unique. The fire is fun and explosions and all but the enemies were kinda boring and had no point, cept to fill the map of course.

The whole of map was also kinda the same, and I know, it is in Africa and meant to be trees and all but it got a bit boring wandering round with no real cool landmarks or memorable things.

A good game if your looking for a distraction but I guess I'm more into Fallout 3 than this.

"Best game (personally) on the PS3"
5 stars"

I have hired it out from the local video store the last 6 times in a row!! Only 65% of the way thru it..... after about forty hours play (could have been quicker but got a life to live – IN the game that is!!) It is addictive, awesome and rewards being smart and imaginative and, I suppose, intelligent and courageous in equal measure.

It has freedom and the environment is spectacular…

Don't listen to other reviewer saying get a 1080p tv and live it up etc etc… (I mean I have too, and of course you should for 1080p games and for blu-rays) and YES! the graphics etc are awesome, and it is, as I say, my favourite game on the ps3 (and I have played COD – MW and WAW… I have played dead space, motorsport pacific drift, nba 2k9 etc etc – you will jote I only play great agmes (as pre-check metacritic etc first… BUT this is my all-time FAV so far. But I love realism, intense gun battles, different approaches to problems according to my mood etc.......

REAL tangible pressure on not dying and having to retread, that feels almost like the closest thing to fighting for your own life...... I swore and threw my control at one point and had to calm myself over several mins – that si gaming…

Cool vehicles, real-time and realistic weapon function etc etc etc.....

Repetitive? Only if life is…

The jungle and africa is africa… you won't pass a 7/11…

I find GTA4 etc FAR more repetitive – after concrete is concrete ladies and gentleman, and I did not grow up in the jungle.

Thing is the game is actually 720p, and cannot be played in 1080p! lol… but, yes, it looks awesome…

fire graphics engine etc – the enemy swearing and abusing you etc etc is also awesome during battles and shootouts.....

the gps is awesome… the whole thing is spectacular. Very underrated, even with a metacritic average of 85.....

it should actually be a contender for game of the year and is a 9.5/10 game, but then there is no accounting for taste in this world of wanting to shoot space creatures and other stupid nonsense.

People live on earth. Killing people therefore is (in gaming world) is MUCH more visceral – that is a fact – than linear nonsense like Dead Space, Resistance POOH and so forth......

Be a man. Fight men.

ah, some people (1080p… lol!!…)

:)

"Great game but glitches ruined it. "
2 stars"

This was one of the first games I got for my PS3. I played the original Farcry on PC so was pretty keen to get this one. I was a little disappointed to find that it wasn't actually all that related to the first game but gave it a solid go anyhow.

The game has a great format, with an open world set in a war ravaged region of Africa, where 2 parties (or armies) are struggling for dominance. You travel around by foot or in a range of vehicles, completing missions along the way. There are missions related to the main story mode and other side missions such as killing the odd baddy, taking out a weapons shipment or finding briefcases full of diamonds (the local currency).

I found the game to be truly rewarding and the only part of the game play that put me off was loading times when travelling to different parts of the map.

My real problem however was with a glitch which after doing some research, I found was common enough. After playing more than 50% of the story mode and having spent a huge number of hours completing a number of side missions etc, I got to a point where I could not accept my next mission in story mode. I was supposed to go to a building and walk through a door to get my next mission but the door was closed and would not open. The only way for me to get around this was to start the game again as I did not have any previous saves without this issue. I was pretty gutted to say the least.

In the end, all my time and effort was wasted because of a silly glitch. I do know that others have avoided this issue however so maybe me and the others that suffered from it were just unlucky. All that said, what I did experience from the game was great. So if you are willing to take a bit of a risk, I would highly recommend this game. If you are worried about getting messed about, I would recommend that you get a different game.

This game is great. It can be as long as you want with all the extra bits you can find or just follow it quick through.

"Diamonds in a briefcase?"
3 stars"

For some reason this game reminds me so much of the movie blood diamonds. It has features other games don't have like rusting guns, realistic fire, diamonds as currency or the fact you get to find a really old hatchback car with a new GPS Overall its a good game, kinda repetitive but good
