"Amazing Game"
5 stars"

Far Cry is an amazing game. I think it basically defines the FPS genre. You find yourself fighting your way through tropical jungles, before plunging into dark oppressive cave systems. Weapons and gameplay are amazing, I seriously recommend this game.

Enemies are responsive, but the AI is somewhat archaic by current standards (mercenaries will crouch behind a box and stay there most of the time) but they certainly are satisfying to headshot. In later levels the presence of mutants, called trigens, keep you constantly on tenterhooks. You never know where they'll come from.

With five difficulty settings, you'll never fail to be challenged. Whether you want a ‘peaceful tropical island stroll’ or you have a death wish, there's fun for the whole family.

This is my all-time favourite game, I've clocked it about five times on every difficulty, I seriously recommend you get it. Its so cheap, you really don't have a reason not to.

"Enthralling"
4 stars"

Even today with such games as Crysis and STALKER I still find myself time to play the classics.

Far Cry is one of the better games I have played in recent years which still keeps me coming back for more. There's a good mix of action, graphical punch and varied environments to keep you gripped 'till the climax. AI is pretty cunning but can be a little heavy handed (adaptive AI seems to make the game a bit easier to play without killing the challenge) and there's plenty to wander around and a take a gander at on the island. This ability to stray outside the paths intended by the developers makes the game much more spontaneous and challenging as there can be many ways to accomplish a set objective. My one minor irritance would have to be the story which is probably one of the loosest and poorly thought out pieces of writing I've encountered in awhile, second only to Painkiller. The story seems to only be there to tie levels together (which it barely does in my mind; I didnt follow it 90% of the time) rather then to further a plot which is convoluted and full of gaps.

When all is said and done, I definitely recommend this game to those who want a challenge with some great variety and style. Don't be put off by Far Cry's Semi-sequel, this game actually has some substance.
