This document is a best practice guide that recognises the special requirements of fire precautions in the design of healthcare premises and should allow the current statutory regulations to be applied sensibly within a framework of understanding. The guidance looks at the interaction between physical fire precautions, the dependency of the patient, the fire hazards within healthcare premises, management policies and the availability of sufficient and adequately trained staff in achieving an acceptable level of fire safety within healthcare premises.
