M-30 122mm Howitzer

A new 122mm howitzer was designed by the OKB under the head of F. F. Petrov shortly before World War II to replace the obsolescent World War I models. The trials of the new weapon were completed in late 1938. In the September 1939 the new howitzer M-30 became the standard divisional howitzer of Red Army. More than 13,500 were made during World War II.

The M1938 is mounted on a box-section trai1 fitted with a shield. The recoil system consists of a hydraulic buffer above the tube, and a hydropneumatic recuperator below it. The breechblock is a hinged screw type. Transport weight of the M-30 was 3100kg and it was towed by 3-ton truck or by a six horse limber team, but often they were hauled by a Stalinets tractor. It was usually maned by a crew of eight men.It had a muzzle velocity of 515meter/second and maximum range was 11800 meters. Rate of fire was max 6 rounds/minute.

The 122mm obr 1938 Howitzer is a devastating, hard hitting artillery piece. Fired as artillery it adds the punch to the massed guns of the Red God Of War. It ranges out to 80”/200cm, with a Artillery FP 3+ and AT 4. In the direct fire role it can be equally as devastating. It’s range of 24”/60cm and ROF 1 is more than made up for by its FP 2+, AT 7, making it a great weapon for digging out stubborn defenders.
