Description

While tanks may seem all powerful, infantry are still the best way to take and hold terrain. A Motor Platoon is highly mobile with every soldier mounted in a truck. Once on the objective and dug in, the riflemen are virtually immovable. Motor Platoons are usually well supported by the Royal Horse Artillery, machine-guns and anti-tank guns.

Trucked Motor Platoon

Along with the Royal Horse Artillery, the Rifle Brigade plays a vital role in modern mobile warfare. They provide the foundation on which the tanks manoeuvre and occupy key positions well forward on the battlefield so the gunners can really get stuck into the enemy.

Lorried Motor Platoon

After the defeat at Gazala some Motor Battalions were reorganised to use two 3-ton lorries rather than four small 15 cwt trucks. This reduced the amount of petrol and other supplies (not to mention drivers and mechanics) needed to keep the battalion in battle.

In Flames Of War

One of the great advantages of the Motor Platoon is its infantry teams are MG teams. MG teams have ROF 3, giving them a fair amount of firepower for such a small unit.

The Trucked Motor Platoon has 4 MG teams (including command), plus an option to add up to 3 Boys anti-tank rifle teams and a Light Mortar team.

The Lorried Motor Platoon has 5 MG teams (including command), plus an option to add a Boys anti-tank rifle team and a Light Mortar team.

A PIAT can be added to either platoon to replace one Boys anti-tank rifle.

  • Deployment ML: Can be deployed at mid/late stage of war
