Excerpt from Fourth Report on the Custody and Condition of the Public Records of Parishes, Towns, and Counties, 1892 By chapter 108 of the Resolves of 1889, which continued the commission, it expires on March 1, 1892. The history of its creation and early work are fully given in the first report, presented to the Legislature in January, 1889; and the second recites the resolve which continued it, and gave it the additional power to take such measures as should secure the preservation of the records. At the risk of inviting the charge of magnifying the office, I do not hesitate to state that no more important work has ever been laid out by the Legislature; no work has been so far delayed beyond the time when it Should have been commenced; and there is nothing more important to the whole people than that the work should be continued, and a supervision exercised over the records of the counties, cities, towns, churches, and their associate bodies.
