First of all, ignore the idea of this cup being smart. The CaféPay app isn't available in New Zealand on either iOS or Android. (And the reviews on their store pages suggest that we aren't missing much.) This is just a regular, old reusable coffee cup.
So it's a good job that it's an incredibly stylish one. I absolutely love the sleek, minimal design. Sometimes, I catch myself just staring at it on my desk.
It has some downsides. It's fairly decently leak-proof, providing you strictly adhere to the instructions not to seal it with liquid above 65 degrees inside. I had some issues with my morning instant coffee steaming up and then condensing and leaking out the sides. Unfortunately, not being able to use boiling water means that the cup isn't able to keep the coffee hot for very long. It's tepid at best after my morning commute of about 30 minutes, so it's best used when getting a takeout coffee. I also wouldn't trust it in my bag like some of the marketing has claimed, as if something nudges the button you're going to end up with coffee all through your bag. Learned that one the hard way.
Still, it's priced similarly to other reusable coffee cups, so if you're in the market to get environmentally-conscious and are in the market for one, you could do a lot worse than these.
And they are incredibly, incredibly stylish.
