"AAA Grade Game"
5 stars"

Personally got it as a budget title about a year ago, and within 2 hours of play both myself and my roomate got so addicted that in two weeks i finished the game before him. Brillant play, decent plot and story and highly addictive if your the type who finds himself still playing older titles because there more fun than the new shelf titles. Highly recommend it also to beginners (13y.o.) gamers as the controls are simple to learn, and their isnt much gore or profanity.

"One of the greats."

Freelancer is still one of the best games I've played, and I've played a few. The story line is just the begining, for once you've saved the universe, then you can really explore. Secret systems to discover and vast wealth to obtain. You don't need a high spec system to run the game and it looks really good.

"Good game, short storyline"
4 stars"

Freelancer fits the general mold of start with small ship, get better ship, go on missions. Fun enough. Storyline is a bit short and easy to finish with only a couple of challenging missions…

"Great Game!!"
4 stars"

This game is one of Best Games ever!! Freelancer is a pioneer game mixing RPG and Sci-fi elements into Great mystery Storyline.

You Play as Edison Trent(dont really like the name, but it'll do.) A Freelancer making his way in the galaxy when he gets caught up in a major conspiracy involving Intergalactic politics and the like. when you begin, the Station that you are in is destroyed and you are one of the sole survivors. left with nothing, you get a job with the police as the plot begins to unravel.

The trouble with this game is that the makers advertised it as a game where you can do any thing that you want, and roam free around the universe. This is not entirly true as you pretty much have to complete the storyline before You ‘unlock’ all the solar systems. the other problem is that when you get a job from someone, it never really goes past going to a selected area and destroying whatever Criminals are there. I Personally think this game would have done really well as a ‘Massivly Multiplayer’ game where you go around the universe and do pretty much anything. Overall This Game Rates really well in the storyline department, and also the Solar Systems Are Graphically Really well done. I Would Recommend this Game Pretty much only for the Storyline.

"A very good game."

Freelancer, created by Chris Roberts (Privateer, Wing Commander) puts you as a space pilot in another universe.

In single player you have a “Save the Human Race” main movie-story to follow which will take a few days playing. You get to fly missions, and trade. Your actions will change you status with each faction. Play a pirate/ trader/ policeman/ assassin. Make your own destiny.

Played multiplayer on the net over the weekend. Multiply the fun.

It takes hours to develop character. This is no 30 second first person shooter. My 8 yr old newphew loved it. This game would keep him quiet for weeks just in single player.

In a universe of 50 star systems to explore, hundreds of bases, many factions, lots of customisable ships and tradable items.

If that isn't enough, go to lancersreactor.com and get some of the free mods created for your enjoyment (23 linked sites for mods) by others who love the game. Mods extend the game to where you could buy any ship from a light star fighter to a colossal battle station. On the net you will need to play with others just to survive – it is a large & mean universe out there!

Normally about a 500–1000 friendly people playing Freelancer at any time on the net for free, newcomers welcome.

"Oh boy, more pirates."
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

When you're not playing the story missions you spend your time earning money trading, flying combat missions or pirating. I didn't find any of these much fun.

Trading appeals to me but you have to buy a freighter which you pilot yourself. You can't hire one. You also can't hire mercenaries to escort you. Since the freighters aren't suited for combat you'll have a hard time coping with all the pirates, who are everywhere.

Another problem with trading, is the story restricts which territory you can fly to. For instance, when you start out you are in Liberty space, and you can't leave until the story takes you to Britonia, but then you can't go back to Liberty. This severly restricts trading because the most lucrative routs are trans-territory.

You can stick with a fighter and do some missions but they're all randomly generated and extremely repetative. They simply require you to fly to a particular nav point and destroy all the pirates.

The game's huge but everywhere you go is pretty much the same. Once you've explored for a while you realize there just isn't that much to do.

The graphics look pretty good and the mouse controls work well. It's also pretty easy to get in to, so I suppose it would be fun for kids. But I can't imagine it keeping a grown-up gamer interested for long.

I wish they'd have made the universe a bit smaller and spent the time developing the gameplay instead.

The biggest problem for me though, is there are too many damn pirates! Every pirate in the galaxy must follow you around! Whenever you stop, enter or leave a station there they are. The game turns into one tedious battle with wave after wave of yet more pirates. How many of them could there possibly be!?
