Excerpt from French and Indian Cruelty: Exemplified in the Life and Various Vicissitudes of Fortune, of Peter Williamson, a Disbanded Soldier Treatment, contrived at lafi to' make their Efcape 5 but being far from their own Settlements, and not knowing the Country, were foon after met by fome others, of the Tribes, or Nations at War with us, and brought back to their diabolical Mafiers, who greatly rej01ced at having them again in their infer nal Power. The poor Creatures, almoit familhed for want ofsufienance, having had none during'the Time of their Elopement were no fooner in the Clutches of the Barbarians, than two of them were tied to a Tree, and a great Fire made round them, where they remained 'till they were terribly fcorch'd and burnt; when one of the Villians with hisj'cfllf 'iflg Knife, ript. Open their Bellies, took out their Entrails, and burnt them before their Eyes, whilf't the others were cutting, piercing, and tearing the Flefh from their Breal'ts, Hands, Aims, and Legs, with red-hot: Irons, 'till they were dead. The third unhappy Vifiim, was referved a few Hours longer, to be, if pollible, facrificed in a more cruel Manner; his Arms were tied eloie to his Body, and a Hole beingdug, deep' enough for him to fiand upright, he was put therein, and Earth ram'd, and beat in, all round his Body up to his Neck, {6 that his Head 'only appear'd above Ground; they then fi'a/p'd him, and there let him remain for three or four Hours, in the greatel't A'goniesz, alter which they made a fmail Fire near his Head, caufing him to fuffer the mbfi excruciating Torments immaginable; whilfi the poor Creature could only cry for Mercy in killing him immediately, for his 'braius were boiling in his Head 'inexorable to all his Plaints, they continued the Fire, whilfi, {hocking to behold!
