- Ahead of a highly-awaited New Zealand show in June, Auckland-based producer Matthew Young releases his emotive, authentic and seamlessly produced Fruit EP, via Sony Music NZ.
- The seven-track release incorporates the recent success of Youngs single Fix Me Up as premiered via triple j and DIY magazine, as well as acclaimed 2017 tracks Hey and Collect, which were both swiftly added to rotation on triple j and each received.
- Fruit is one of the year's most exciting bodies of work, and following an 18month hiatus, Young displays an honest portrayal of what he describes as the most fruitless season of his life. Via honey-soaked vocals and vivacious songwriting, Young brings together smooth RnB basslines, emphatic synths, lush keys and echoing guitar chords. Fruit is a seductive listening experience from start to finish. The EP opens with Youngs latest release Fix Me Up, and is followed by cherished single Hey and Youngs re-work of 80s cult-classic Running Up That Hill. Next up is For You Low Life which couples honest, intimate lyrics with a smooth RnB beat. Over This will then stop you in your tracks with its vivid opening chords. Slowing things down, Problem presents a darker, deeper listen with silky vocals and a cascading guitar solo to close out. Bringing Fruit home is the much loved single, Collect.
- Matthew says on his Fruit EP: Coming through months of being under medicated, over medicated or feeling like the guy from Silver Linings Playbook, I finally figured some shit out and got to making music again. Having come through the other side, the dynamic rising star is back with a flawless EP to show for it
