Ghostbusters – The Board Game is a 4 player cooperative game where you work together to close gates to the spirit world that are churning out ghosts before you run out of ghosts in the spirit world. Players can return ghosts to the spirit world by catching them and depositing them into the ‘dimensionometer’ built into the Ecto-1. The game features 3 bosses, Slimer, Stay Puft and Idulnas, and each boss comes with a 4 mission campaign to grow your characters XP to face the final boss. There are also 3 stand alone alternate boss battles provided. The game is a lot of fun, and the characters abilities really fit with the movies and themes with each character having a unique role in the team. Egon evolves into a great sniper, Peter gets XP for tanking ghosts and getting slimed, Ray gets XP for de-sliming teamates and Winston gets XP for depositing everyones ghosts into the Ecto-1. The only pity with this game is that when it was kickstarted there was a tonne of content that was developed but made exclusive to the kickstarter deluxe edition including 3 more tile sets, 5 bosses, 2 new ghost types and and additional 4 Ghostbusters (from various ghostbusters comics). Still the base game is great fun, but serious fans will lament missing out on the extras – Cryptozoic has hinted however that these extras might return in a future kickstarter for a sequal or expansion pack, so there may still be a chance to get them. The games price point is quite high considering the smaller amount of content in the base game, but if you are a Ghostbusters fan you will still get a lot of enjoyment out of it!

Much like the other person who commented here, I also played this in the deluxe KS version which had a lot more kit, (including Cthulhu!) and once shipping from over seas was worked out price wise the KS was a steal. This however is like a vanilla version of the game, which I can imagine been somewhat lacking in replay value until the “add ons” come out, but then you're shelling out even more $ so keep that in mind. But enough about money, the game itself is fantastic fun. Very simple to pick up, very quick turns. The scenario based gaming means you play in incremental “levels” starting easy and quickly becoming more challenging, the characters can level up and gain new abilities which is also pretty good. Means the game doesn't stagnate and gives more variety. It's models are of a really well designed and cast translucent plastic, either great for pro painter, or good from box to play with. So to sum up, for the right price (The sale price is very fair) this is one you should definitely pick up for your weekly gaming weekends. =)
