Description

Sailing out of the icy Arctic into the balmy South Pacific, Alfred and his dog and seagull crew encounter fishermen on a shrimp trawler who will kill anything in their way -- turtles, dolphins, sharks, even people -- in their desperation to make fast money. It is a narrow escape for the submariners. They also discover that the vast Pacific Ocean contains sunken warships, aeroplanes, radioactive debris and millions of tons of plastic garbage, all of which appear to confirm a dire prediction given to Alfred by an Inuit elder: "The sea is dying". Yet Alfred is encouraged when he meets the crew of an environmental protection ship, and then, a floating circus. He learns that the Pacific is a weird and wondrous place. But there is a war being waged between those who want to protect the oceans and those who don't care. He must take a stand.

Author Biography:

Philip Roy continues to travel back and forth between Nova Scotia and Ontario, keeping residence in both places. For some half-dozen years now, he has been presenting orally a series of stories at local schools, fairs, and markets called Happy the Pocket Mouse. The first of the series, Mouse Tales, illustrated by Andrea Torrey Balsara, will be released by Ronsdale Press in spring 2014. This series of picture books complements Philips Submarine Outlaw series for young adults, which is now up to volume six. Recently he travelled to Australia to research the materials for the next book in the series, Eco Warrior, to appear in the fall of 2014. Travelling makes for great adventure, Philip contends. The only thing better is writing about it and visiting schools and libraries to share the stories with young readers. Visit Philip Roys website at www.philiproy.ca
