I loved the Gilmore Girls. I watched every episode when it was on TV and
grew up with Rory, who is only 2 years older than me. So when I saw the boxed
set my mildly compulsive collector urge kicked in and I shelled out the $159
for it. It's great to be back in the Stars Hollow world, and track how many
obscure pop culture references you can identify as the banter and laughs crank
out at lightening speed. Much of my musical tastes and reading choices have been
built on this show over the years. Sadly, the special features are patchy to say
the least – a few ‘additional scenes’ that were cut for airtime and you
can't watch in situ in the episode, and a couple of behind the scenes and
mash-ups. There isn't even a chapter-selection menu, and a couple of discs (I'm
only onto season 3 while writing this) already seem to be doing that
skippy-jumpy-badly-burned thing which may or may not get worse with age. I love
the Gilmore Girls, and it's an economically sound move to get the boxed set.
Just wish I could compare to the individual-seasons to see what I've missed out
on by grabbing the bargain basement version.
