Description

William Gladstone's involvement in the major political events of the 19th century, from parliamentary reform in the 1830s to Irish home rule in the 1880s, is the main theme of this biography of the Victorian Liberal politician. The private life of this influential figure is also explored, as well as his activities as a scholar and theologian. This edition of the book has been revised to include parts of Gladstone's diary published since 1974 and a bibliography of recent publications on his life. E.J.Feuchtwanger is also the author of "Disraeli, Democracy and the Tory Party", "Prussia: Myth and Reality" and "Democracy and Empire: Britain, 1865-1914" and is editor of many historical textbooks including "The Soviet Union and The Third World" with Peter Nailor and "Air Power in the Next Generation" with R.A.Mason.
